iPhone Frozen

When our iPhone is frozen, it can be one of the most frustrating experiences of our lives.

Whether we’re simply browsing the web, getting ready to take a picture, or even if we’re playing a game, regardless of what we’re doing on our iPhones, it causes an inconvenience to our day, and we don’t enjoy that.

With that in mind, the most well-known and common solutions to your iPhone freezing are completely wiping your iPhone and restoring your data either through iTunes, iCloud, or simply starting from scratch.

This process can take a lot of time and inconvenience you, especially if you need your iPhone to get on with your work. Today we will explain two separate methods that you can use to fix your iPhone while it’s frozen.

Note: If you have a hardware problem that is causing the crash, these methods won’t work for you!

Fix #1 – How to Force Restart Your iPhone

As we briefly mentioned above, one of the things you can do to fix an iOS issue is to restart your iPhone once or twice. Generally, this will fix your problem by simply reloading the iOS system.

However, if you aren’t able to interact with your iPhone’s user interface, you can’t restart it using the typical restart method.

Force Restart to Fix iPhone Frozen

This is where force restarting comes in. A force restart is an iPhone feature that has been built-in for situations like this, and even if your iPhone is completely unresponsive, you’re still able to force restart. To do this, follow the steps below.

  • #1 – Take your iPhone and press the “Volume Up” button on the side for just a second before quickly releasing it.
  • #2 – Press your “Volume Down” button on the side for a second, and quickly release it.
  • #3 – Lastly, press and hold your iPhone’s “Power” button. Continue to do this until you see the Apple logo appear on the iPhone’s display and, once it does, release.
  • #4 – Your iPhone will now begin to force restart, which should take no more than a few minutes.

Typically, this is a quick fix for most iOS or iPhone issues, and once your iPhone has loaded up, the problem will be gone. That being said, if this doesn’t fix iPhone frozen, one of the other fixes we’ve provided below will help you.

Fix #2 – Using DFU Mode to Fix iPhone Frozen

DFU mode is a built-in iOS feature that is designed to wipe your iPhone, remove all of your personal data, reset the device’s settings, and, basically, thoroughly factory reset your device.

Due to the fact that all of your personal data will be removed, you might want to consider this as a “last resort” if none of the other fixes help you.

To Enter DFU Mode, Follow Our Guide Below.

  • #1 – Connect your iPhone to your computer using a lightning cable and launch iTunes.
  • #2 – Press your iPhone’s “Volume Up” button for a second before quickly releasing it and immediately doing the same with the “Volume Down” button.
  • #3 – Next, hold the “Power” button until your device turns off, then you should release the button.
  • #4 – Once powered down, wait a few seconds before holding both the “Power” and “Volume Up” buttons at the same time for approximately 5 seconds.
  • #5 – After this time, release the “Power” button but continue to press the “Volume Up” button until you see iTunes alert you that the device is now in DFU mode.
  • #6 – Click on the “OK” button, and lastly, click on “Restore iPhone“.
  • #7 – Follow the on-screen instructions, and your iPhone should be usable once again after a few minutes.

Again, it’s best to leave this fix until you have tried some of the other fixes discussed in this article. The last thing you want to do is lose your personal data (your photos, videos, text message, everything!).

Fix #3 – Contact Your Local Apple Store

If none of the fixes that we’ve explained to you above has helped to fix iPhone frozen, then the chances are that there is something wrong with your device’s hardware.

Unfortunately, there isn’t anything you can do to fix a smartphone’s hardware unless you have access to professional equipment, so your only option now is to contact an Apple store.

Fortunately, given that iPhones are very new and are one of the most recent smartphone releases, you’ll most likely be given a replacement without any additional costs – faulty devices in the early days of a release are typically due to a manufacturing problem. Thus, it isn’t your fault.

Preventing Your iPhone from Freezing

Not only is it important to fix your iPhone freezing issue, but it’s important that you know what has been causing it to crash and how you can prevent it from doing so in the future.

Backing Up Your iPhone.

This can be a great solution. The chances are that if your iPhone suddenly starts to freeze, a software change has been made.

If that’s the case, restore your iPhone from a backup that you’ve taken, and it will revert any software-related changes that have been made and sort out your freezing issue for you.

For this reason and many others, you must back up your iPhone regularly (you can do this through iTunes, iCloud, or Dr.Fone).

Diagnostics & Usage Test.

This can be helpful if you’re looking to locate what the freezing is caused by. The test will list all the applications and services currently running on your iPhone.

You can find out what is causing the freezing issue by directing yourself to “Latest Crash,” which will display the cause for you to sort out.

Wipe Your iPhone.

If worst comes to worst and you want to use your iPhone, then this is for you. However, this should only be used as an absolute last resort. The path you should take to wipe your iPhone is “Settings -> General -> Transfer or Reset iPhone -> Reset All Settings“. This process can take some time, depending on a few different factors.
